This theory would also explain the presence of Carolina bays, which are elliptical shaped, oriented wetland depressions located throughout the coastal plain of NC, SC, and GA. These features all date to this same time period, and no other process explains how they all have the same orientation (NW-SE). No impact bodies have ever been found, which is consistent with a comet. As we all saw with Shoemaker Levy when it hit Jupiter, comets can fragment into many smaller pieces.
This is so cool! I actually saw this when I was in high school around 1977 during a field trip to the Chemistry Dept at the Univ. of South Carolina. The Youtube link says this reaction was discovered by a couple of high school chem teachers during the '70s. Figures a bunch of science geeks would use it to show of to a bunch of high school kids!
A great effort to cover a whole lot of territory. Her South Carolina accent is in the ballpark but still needs work.
By the way, the female southern accent (anywhere from southern Virginia through Mississpi) is the most beautiful, sexy accent there is, at least in the US!
