We had the same growing up in Lincoln, NE, late 60's early 70's. An old tank and a fighter plane (or maybe a trainer). We could get on them, in them and crawl out on the wings of the plane. They always smelled like weed and teenage shame.
Also had a fire engine from the 20's in a different park. I haven't been back there in 30 years don't know if they are still around, probably not.
I'm not up on the latest ping pong ball tech, but I remember them being made out of celluloid, same as old films. There is no fireproofing for that, celluloid burns like crazy. Think bathroom fireball.
