Alex Fear's Comments

I was actually enjoying these factoids till it got to #10.

What's the deal with "Christianity killed the games" when it was an Emperor who had not quite fully grasped the gospel.

A case from my own history, when I became I Christian I chucked all my Iron Maiden cd's, something I now deeply regret, but I went out and bought their "best of" compilation a few years ago and downloaded the rest.

Why couldn't the title be "The Romans killed the games" heck why not "Italians killed the games".

+ Why are some people on here getting upset that some skygod believers trashed some other skygod believers temple? Would you complain if some church buildings got trashed today - I imagine you'd celebrate?

I don't have time to write that often but I'm a born-again Christian who doesn't always espouse the views of my fellow brethren.

I tend to offend both Christians and non-Christians with my views, but I mostly want people to think and see things from the other perspective.

Superheros tend to do well in pop culture, look at Superman, however Batmans symbol has changed a lot over the years (Supes just grows/shrinks) so you probably have to time it right and pick one which will be iconic.

I'm not sure this batman logo is iconic yet (it may become).. it's not even being used in the comics is it?

That said, movie tats tend to suck where as tats based on things that have more of a cult/iconic/legacy status tend to retain their cool.

Actually I was going to suggest puffy down-jacket man is the potential victim here. iPod guy seems to have the shirtless Bruce Lee thing going on... my guess is he's going to put a roundhouse kick on puffy before he can say "Gimme that..."

@dragon tryst

Fake iPod sounds awesome idea. What do you use for it? Also would be cool to put a mini explosive in which triggers when you press play- but then Pod victim falls victim to more important law of anti-terrorism.

No poster-warnings there, just surveillance and arrest.

Biologically I was born with index fingers, but I choose to define them as lazer-beams!!

Now I can just point and go blam! Furthermore no-one has a right to question or be offended by my digit-assignment.

@Max Power

Does having a Swiss German friend with the name Grossenbacher count? ... actually I may be confusing the Swiss German spelling.

@Thomas

My bad, it's actually Isaac her son which means "she/he laughs".

Anyway you get the point.

Pardon my ignorance, but haven't all names stemmed from something else?

And if the guy was a native Indian would everyone be mocking?

Dances With Wolves, anyone...?

What about these other names:

Baker...?
Jamesson...?
Dawsons Creek...?
Christopher?
Lewis Carol?

for the international...

Grossenbacher... (this means Greatbaker in German)?

for the historical...

Sarah... (meaning She Laughs)?

Do we call people a scrooge because that word represents a tight-fisted person or because it was someone's name who was tight fisted?

Sure they sound normal now but weren't they all at some point strange-sounding for someones name?

And to the Christians commenting on this thread... read your damn bible, name changing after an encounter was God is pretty much the standard fare throughout the whole of the old testament and some in the new.

I'm not against gay partnerships and I wouldn't want to force my views on anyone.

But I feel obligated to mention that 'marriage' is one of those 'bullshit' religious institutions that religions 'force' on people.

If you don't agree, then how do you reconcile the fact that religious parents - if not outright forcing it - desire that their children marry before having sex?

It's ironic to me.. it's ironic because they're fighting for the right to be religious! After all what's wrong with a civil-union which already gives parnters equal rights?

Before anyone dismisses my comments here. As a Christian I think Christians should actually be at least content that gay couples have won the right to marry. Marriage in itself demonstrates commitment and it hopefully prevents sexual promiscurity.

The truth is that adultery and divorce ruin families, not gay people- and the church really has to get a grip on that before attacking other peoples sexual issues.

That description of England is not even the half of it.

Imagine living in a country that is 10 years behind the times in technology and innovation, yet believes itself to be one of the leading countries of the world in these areas... that is England.

@Athon,

All I've done is ask questions, you're responses have grown more and more spiteful and have yet contained barely any answers to my questions.

I measure intelligence by the level of civility employed in an argument.

By 'refuting' my *example* of smoking not causing cancer (to which I should have added "in every case" so as not to cause confusion for the simple-minded) are you actually implying that cancer, in every single case, is caused by either directly or passive smoking?

Are you also implying that in every case of a fat person, it's because they have eaten too much? So there's no case for genetics at all?

Your angry and superfluous arguments appear to me to be nothing more than setting up straw men out of my questions rather than attempting to answer them or pose questions back.

@Athon,

I never said anything about magic, and I never questioned *how* cancer works, I asked *what causes cancer*. You're inability to answer this shows your lack of education in the art of communication.

I am fully confident that I don't know what causes cancer, I am fully confident that science answers many questions and tells us absolutely how things work.

So do you have an answer to what *causes* cancer or continue to pontificate with absolutely no explanations whatsoever?

Honestly it's quite embarrasing having to point this out.

=)
