O.K., guys -- If you've been around cats "much" at all, there are 3 things going on here.
1) Fleas tend to migrate to the head and spine above the butt. So, you're scratching there feels good.
2) The cat IS confused because:
3) At least on a female cat, that is an erogoneous zone. The scratching feels good, also arouses, and yes, she is confused and "possibly" angry. Often, a female will "queen" if you scratch her back there. That is, raise her hind end which is saying she is ready to mate. Don't know if it's the same turn on for males or not -- haven't liked having tom cats around for numerous reasons 1) spraying; 2) they always get into fights
So, next time you "scratch" your female feline's back, think 1st about "what" you're doing!
