I guess as my picture has been used in this blog I might as well pipe in. Are you sure for this article you are referring to MIDTOWN Detroit and not DOWNTOWN Detroit? Midtown has the ritzy Fisher Theater, Cadillac Plaza ( former GM Headquarters ) , the Historic Edison District ( houses that are $300,000 and up ) as well as quite a few museums and art gallerys. The statistics for crime, etc are very slanted, and are not reported by each City/State the same way for these reports. You can check 5 different reports and get 5 different cities. Interesting that Washington DC is always first or second on most lists but has not appeared at all in this discussion. There are some bad parts to Detroit and Flint ( you can throw Saginaw MI in there too ) , however I felt less safe in parts of Toledo, Buffalo, Cleveland, New Orleans, L.A., Chicago, and quite a few others. As a touring musician for 20 years I got to see the less than savory sites of a lot of places across the country. Detroit is the big target to kick around right now so I understand the slant of the article. Come on out here though. We'll show you the million dollar houses that line Jefferson Ave that go 4 miles straight. Bet you don't hear about those in the news. I'm not originally from Detroit but love it here. There's a lot of good here. Maybe someday someone will report that too.
