Ignoring the f:m ratio, so long as it's not permanent I have absolutely no trouble with this. When I was born, there were about 5bn people, now there are nearly 7bn. I've no intention of having more than one or two kids myself, I'd sign up for a while.
There was a Chinese typewriter on display at the Oxford science museum (photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethicsgradient/7120685913/in/photostream) I was quite surprised by how small it was. However, you have to pick up one die, use it and put it back before you can select another character.
I went to the Dorothy Hodgkin memorial lecture last year.. Elspeth Garman showed a few of the sensationalist newspaper clippings with titles like "Boffins send AIDS into space!" IIRC, her research group they were trying to grow crystals of HIV in microgravity in order to work out the protein structure.

I forgot to say though whilst my PhD's in maths and electronics, I can't play the piano in any way shape or form; so he's most assuredly got one up on me.
