Oh man, I didn't realise they were even going to bother with a second one. Given how I-think-it-gave-me-cancer bad the last x-files movie was, I'd be staggered if this one wasn't similar. If it's a stand-alone one and not a cliffhanger (like most of the series tended to be) then cool, bring it on though.

Sorry to be a downer, but giant squid probably don't make good eating. Given the depth and pressure these buggers live, they can't keep air bladders to maintain their depth, instead, they're got large quantities of ammonium (think wee) in their bodies. Ammonium, being less dense than the surrounding seawater allows them to be neutrally buoyant.

If someone knows a way of getting that out of them, then hell, I'm there with plain ol' lemon juice.

Of course he's a murderer, the very, very least you could say about him is it was justifiable homicide. It wasn't his property, he wasn't in fear for his life, it was (briefly) pre-meditated and since he shot them in the back, they were either running away from a madman with a gun, or weren't given sufficient chance to surrender in the first place. If he wanted to do some good, he could have followed them, photographed them, written down useful descriptions, not torn them apart. I suspect after shooting them, he made no effort to preserve their life or give them first aid.

This guy should be sent to jail for a very long time, so he can discover first hand that the word "fist" can be used as a verb.

The peace prize committee seems to move pretty damned fast compared to that for science. For example, John Hume and David Trimble were awarded nobel peace prizes. However peace in northern ireland hasn't yet been 100% esatablished. The prize for Watson and Crick for discovering the structure of DNA was awarded years after they'd published and put into useful practice their results.

With reference to point 9, about giving people malaria to cure syph. It should be pointed out that whilst malaria is a crippling disease, it's possible to recover from it. Syph on the other hand drives you insane and finally leaves you dead, a problem which is somewhat harder to recover from.

This is a pretty ancient idea, though I hope it gets further than the one shown on Tomorrow's World in the 90s. IIRC they used a phosphor coated spinning helix and a laser which excited it.

An incredibly irritating trait that seems to be happening more and more in the UK is to have telemarketers phone you from foreign countries. Apparently this somehow gets through the "do not call" list since it only applies in the uk.

Oh man, that's terrific! I want a making-of video. How do you tune the HDDs and were the platters actually spinning? If not, why aren't they covered in scrapes from the drive heads (I see one of the drives on the bottom right is missing the head armature altogether). Cute!

Whilst Belfast is definately improving, there are still plenty of areas which are predominantly one "side" or the other and a few which are hotly debated. Numerous "peace wall"s have been erected to physically separate one group from another and on interface areas it's quite common to find broken bricks and bottles, a sign of sectarian violence from the day or night before. The city centre is as safe as any other city in the UK or Ireland, however stray far from it and you can find yourself in a lot of trouble very quickly. Sadly this applies to many other towns in Northern Ireland too. On the plus side, the north cost is spectacular and accommodation and drink is on a par or perhaps slightly less than equivalent EU regions.
