This could wreck havoc on the Mexican economy--at least in my driving experience in Sonora, Mexico. In smaller towns, they have speed bumps that are very long--so you end up driving over them slowly enough so those people living in town can try to sell you stuff like shrimp that have been in sealed plastic bags in the hot sun for hours.

What will these people do when collapsible speed bumps are installed?

While I agree with what DrDan is saying, I would say it in a more polite, family-friendly fashion. I also agree his comment misses what this post is about.

I grew up near Cincinnati and had the Big Red Machine to root for. My mom would buy tickets (for her and I, plus a friend or two) for my June birthday, plus the Reds would give out a few pairs of tickets to local kids who did well in school. This meant I got to see the Reds maybe 3 or 4 times a year at Riverfront Stadium.

What turned me off of baseball was the player's strike--in 1981. Since then, I have not cared much about pro baseball; living near Chicago has not helped to change this...

I, too, find the prices at MLB parks to be outrageous. However, the prices at the minor league baseball teams are much more affordable and the games are much more enjoyable. It is great to see two minor league teams play and all the players have a love of the game (and true, the desire to go pro), plus all the things they do for fans (sign autographs before and after the games, allow fans to run the bases after the game, etc.).

If the MLB thinks it can survive by only catering to the uppermiddle and upper class, then more power to them. I agree that they are shooting themselves in the foot, but they will have to find that out. Nothing like watching a ball game on TV and seeing a half-empty stadium.

Just looking at the face shows it is a fake. When Jesus was walking around on Earth, Jewish men had short hair and were clean-shaven. Since Jesus was Jewish (biologically half-Jewish) and lived as a Jew, He, too, would have been clean shaven and had short hair.

Yes, there was a sect of Jewish men that did not cut their hair, but they were dedicating their life to God--Jesus was a carpenter before He did is preaching.

machine - I agree.

With anything that can shut down (like wind turbines when the wind drops below the minimum speed required to generate electricity), you have to have a backup source of electricity. Here in the US, that means leaving another powerplant running but not adding to the grid until needed. That's really environmental.

And if I read that article right, these turbines are up and running, but they have not built the infrastructure to get that electricity from the turbines to the customers? How damaging will these electric lines, poles, and roads (so the lines can be built and maintained) be?

I like the one entitled "The hitchhiker" I believe. It was about a young woman driving across the country (or at least half of it--like Chicago to LA) and she keeps seeing the same hitchhiker.

Watch the show to see why...

Kalel - great puns.

This is nice pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking, but is far from reality. Just some questions off the top of my head:

1. How would the electricity be shared around the world? As others questioned, it would be difficult/impossible to "ship" the electricity from China to mainland USA.

2. How would we deal with our energy needs at night? Assuming we can't "ship" electricity, who gets to keep all the batteries? And how toxic will those batteries be, and how long will they last?

3. What backup power source will we use for night or dark days (like stormy or cloudy days), especially if we don't have those massive battery banks from question #2?

4. Who is will to have their views blocked by solar panels or wind turbines? There are some prime windy electric-generating places off the eastern coast of the US, but those who live on the coast do not want their ocean views ruined by wind turbines.

I do not see wind or solar power being able to be used very extensively. At best, I see homes or single buildings having solar panels or wind turbines to handle some of their electrical needs but not all.

Alex - you quoted from Judaism 101 about the correct use of "bar mitzvah," yet you do not know the origins of circumcision?

Get ye back to the sacred texts--I am Christian, so I will use the Bible's books for reference: In the 17th chapter of Genesis, God is speaking to Abraham about the covenant that He is making with Abraham and in verse 10, God says "This is the covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised." (New Living Translation). I am sure similar text is found in the Jewish Torah since Genesis is one of the shared books between Jews and Christians.

This is where Jews and Christians got the dictate to the circumcision tradition.

About the box: "It was a befitting black, the absence of color."

What? We are talking pigments here, so isn't black the presence of all colors? Isn't it only when talking about light that black is the absence of all color?

Am I getting too geeky?

I saw them during a Labor Day weekend (Labor Day is the first Monday in September here in the US) in '94 while in Wisconsin (about 40 miles west of Green Bay).

It was a hot weekend, and while taking the time-lapsed photos, I had to seek shelter from the mosquitoes.
