I have to say I admire the blogger/photographer for standing up and saying he believes Michael Jackson is innocent, especially when it's so easy to take potshots at the guy for being such an odd duck. I don't have enough info on the case to really have a strong opinion about his guilt or innocence, but it's really easy to buy that -some- of the people, at least, who are convinced of his guilt feel that way more because of how odd he is than out of any solid evidence that he'd guilty of the horrible things he's been accused of ...
Eh, I dunno. Personally (um, assuming he IS innocent, of course) I think it's nice to have a few people out there who are okay with the fact that the world thinks they're freaky ...
Congratulations! I'd never heard of PopURLs before but it looks pretty handy - how awesome that you guys have joined the ranks of the other 'heavy hitters' listed there. Nice to see Neatorama get the attention it deserves.
I have to agree that there is a difference. For me it's a little more subtle than what other people have described, but the free-range eggs just taste more "eggy" somehow. Actually, I bought a carton of regular grocery-store eggs the last time I got eggs, and after having grown used to the free-range eggs I usually buy these days, those regular ones seriously tasted flavorless. They needed a ton of salt and hot sauce on them just to taste like -anything-. I really hadn't expected to be able to tell the difference, but it's definitely there!
Oh dear lord; I've got a massive fish phobia and lived in Illinois until just a few years ago - had I ever encountered one of these things that would have been the end of me, I'd have disintegrated right then and there as my every molecule fled in a different direction ... the horror, the -horror-!
Hmm, Neatorama has always loaded reasonably quickly for me - at least, quickly enough that I've never really marked it as slow-loading or been annoyed with it. Towards that end while it does continue to load quickly, I can't say that I've noticed that it's loading any -more- quickly as of late ...
Also (upon reading the list) - Alex, even after reading this site for a few years now I never knew you were a biochemist! That's pretty cool =) You, Miss C, et al ought to have an "About Us" link somewhere; surely I can't be the only one who's curious about the folks who run this site (uhmm ... unless such a link already does exist and I'm just the only one who's never actually -found- the danged thing yet ... in which case, feel free to point, snicker, and then disregard ;))
Not a huge fan of the "hey, BoingBoing copied us!" rhetoric that's been cropping up here and there ever since BB's revamp (I mean, let's face it, the format both BB and Neatorama exhibit is fairly common in the blogosphere, isn't it?) - but nevertheless I would agree heartily with the folks above who've commented that Neatorama is a "more fun" version of BB. I like both, I honestly do, but like a lot of other people who've already commented, I also feel that BoingBoing has started believing its own hype a bit too much lately, and that that self-important vibe sucks some of the joy out of it ... Neatorama is just plain fun, and the folks who post to it seem like nice, approachable, "regular folks," and they do a wonderful job of profiling some of the most interesting and just plain goofy stuff out there - so long live Neatorama =)
Count me among the folks who love the content as-is - when I first started browsing blogs I must admit that Neatorama was a close second to BoingBoing, but it's since far outpaced BB (though I do still like it, too). The friendliness and lack of axe-grindiness here really makes me happy, and I really don't think there's anything specific I would ask for in terms of the content - what I really like is how vast an array of things you do cover, that unexpectedness really makes it fun to check this site out and see what's new.
The only suggestion I really have, then, is something I believe a few other folks have already mentioned: for those particularly long posts, maybe you could have just the first paragraph on the front page and then use a "more after the jump" link to the full article? Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I'd rather read the shorter articles and in those cases it gets a bit cumbersome to scroll through super-long ones, even if there are other times when I really -enjoy- the longer articles...
Heh, at first I didn't quite get what that picture was meant to be doing, the "fit" between the god-figure and that overlaid brain was so good that I thought it was just some heavy-handed "statement piece" by some artist with a penchant for very simply drawn brains... the fact that it's meant to be showing how the god-figure COULD have been composed that way specifically -to- suggest a human brain is really quite fascinating. Not sure if I believe it or not (the 'Transfiguration of Christ' painting on that page in particular seems like a real stretch), but the potential for it to be true in some instances is really intriguing ...

Please?
