It's funny to think that people having "lost" diy skills is somehow a step backward. Modern folks often dabble in such lost skills mostly for recreational purposes, not because survival or success depends on it. Our ancestors had no such luxury. How anyone can think this development is something to lament thing is beyond me.

Specialization is for prosperity. Insects, mind you, can do quite well.

People have been losing skills since we were living in caves. And probably complaining about it, too. In organized societies, people specialize. This has been a boon to human prosperity. How many people can produce all the food, fuel, etc they need? How many really want to try? It makes much more sense to use your modern skills to get a job and earn money, so you can pay others to do the things you may not want to do or don't know how to do.

What a load of horsecrap. Teens have always mostly dressed modestly. There is no "modest movement" because there was never a trend against modesty. Unless you're one of those types who are still agonizing over females wearing long pants. This is the regular type of crap article that feeds into the inner fogey in many folks about how kids are all wrong these days.

Around here in the big city, teen girls usually wear jeans and t shirts. The immodestly dressed are the exception rather than the rule.

AuUnSi, Another Jake,

It seem that neither your posts, nor the link to the Christianity Today article provided actually refute the factoid #10, but rather back it up. Theodosius I did in fact do as claimed. Doesn't matter if he disliked athletics, had "good intentions", or not. The Olympics were abolished in the effort to make Christianity the state religion.

Your insecurity about simply stating facts seems to have blinded you to the statement of the original post.

I've said it before... high rates of illegal immigration is a very good indicator of well being, particularly evident when the largest numbers were accompanied by very low unemployment rates. Supply and demand explains so much more than La Raza conspiracy theories.

It seems to me, here in the Home of the Homeless, that almost 100% of the homeless people are mentally ill and/or seriously impaired substance abusers. These people simply aren't going to snap out of it when they get sick of rummaging through garbage cans. Eating anonymous leftovers isn't much more dignified than digging through the garbage cans, bus possibly a bit more sanitary. And if the the food would otherwise go to waste, why not?

For Pete's sakes, go take your meds, A.J.

Maybe there should be a separate category for pooches mutilated by illness or accident. It seems unfair to pit a decrepit pooch wracked by misfortune or misadventure against one that's ugly by nature.

"...and to his surprise, no one bats an eye!"

I guess it helps if you look like a clean cut cop. I wonder what folks (or cops) would think if you looked like Snoop Dogg.

I don't really have much problem with open or concealed carry, but I have to wonder, why bother? Crime in the US isn't really that bad. And even the smallest firearms are bulky and heavy. Carrying a very specialized tool all the time for a very unlikely event seems overkill. One could probably argue that carrying a pipe wrench all the time is much more useful in life, but who in their right mind would do that, other than a plumber? I suppose if I lived in a really rough area, I might give open carry a go. But then again, if I lived in such a rough area, it'd probably be better off to just move and avoid any potential conflict altogether.
