Just to put it in perspective, last I heard, the US was spending at least twice as much per day in Iraq.
The expenditure does make me wonder if we wouldn't be better off doing this in the White House with maybe just the outgoing Prez and the new First Family. Televise the thing for the rest of the folks. This would hurt my feelings none. I wonder if people would go for this?
I suppose we wouldn't have to spend so much if nobody wanted to see these things. Several hundred thousand heads converging on one spot are simply going to incur public costs.
The stickers I always thought were a bit disturbing, transforming Calvin into a sociopath. They seemed to escalate in offensiveness for a while. I wouldn't be surprised to them evolve into Calvin sodomizing people/things/ideas that the car owners dislike.
I hate to piss in everyone's cheerios, but this seems odd to me. How do they know the poor girl is actually capable of communicating and not simply responding to stimuli, or being interpreted as communicating? It reminds me a bit of the stuff about Facilitated Communication with autistic children from a while back.
The ancestors of many of us would never have been allowed legal entry into the US if they were subject to today's regulations. I guess the current wave of immigrants are taking the test so that their ancestors can grow up without ever known or caring about such stuff, like the rest of us.
