Out for a Run

These adorably exuberant Keeshond puppies know how to appreciate a good run. If only their exthusiasm for this form of exercise could be bottled and sold!

53 Terrible Jokes in 4 Minutes

It doesn't matter that you know the punch lines to most of these, you can't think of them before he spits them out! And there's always a chance that one or two jokes will take you by surprise. -via Tastefully Offensive

The Massive Murals of Przemek Blejzyk

Przemek Blejzyk, an artist based in Lodz, Poland, works in various media and genres, but I'm especially taken with his enormous murals. This one, which I think is entitled "Spring," is on the Urban Forms Gallery in Lodz.

Father Hires In-Game Assassins To Kill His Lazy Son's Video Game Characters

23-year old Xiao Feng doesn't want to get a job. He'd rather spend his time playing video games. To discourage this activity, Feng's father hired players to hunt down and slay his son's characters:

Unhappy with his son not finding a job, Feng decided to hire players in his son's favorite online games to hunt down Xiao Feng. It is unknown where or how Feng found the in-game assassins—every one of the players he hired were stronger and higher leveled than Xiao Feng. Feng's idea was that his son would get bored of playing games if he was killed every time he logged on, and that he would start putting more effort into getting a job.

Now that's creative parenting!

What John Wears to the Neatorama Meetings

No one likes the new office dress code, but only John has found a way to overdress while still getting a way with wearing his pajamas. I have to admit I'm pretty steamed about it -not about John's rebellion, but about the fact that they don't make pajama suits for women...yet.

Pro(cats)tination

If there's anything I know for sure about the internet, it's that people online love cats. In spite of that, cats don't much like computers - especially when you're pecking away at the keyboard and not petting or feeding them. Stay on a computer for too long with a bored cat by your side and they'll soon behave just like the kitty in this picture.

Do you have any funny stories about how a cat has reacted to you being on a computer?

Medieval Snowball Fights

People have been flinging snowballs at each other longer than anyone knows. The folks in the Middle Ages seemed to enjoy it, if the paintings and illuminations of the era are any indication. Shown here is a detail from the fresco at Castello Buonconsiglio, created circa 1405-1410. The woman in the middle got it good -right in the face! See more artworks featuring snowballs at Retronaut. Take Aim and Miss: The Perfect "I Miss You" Card

Mikeasaurus, an Instructables member, has been featured on Neatorama for both his Beer Advent Calendar and his DIY Magnetic Silly Putty. It's safe to say that if you need a creative, amusing way to tell someone you miss them, an "I miss you" card created by Mikeasaurus is definitely a great idea. You can download a PDF scaled to A4 (8.5" x 11") and the template at the card's page, where you can find more cool images of the card. It's up to you whether you actually take the card to the shooting range or just poke the gunholes in with a pen.

Professor X at His School

Patrick Stewart--Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies--visited a school with a familiar name. He writes, "This was taken a while ago but hearing best student Logan is officially on board, it now seems a good time to share."

Library in the Park

My childhood would have been so much better if I could wait at the park for my parents to pick me up and check out a book there at the same time. The stand, officially called Paradero ParaLibros ParaParques (Whereabouts For Books, For Parks) is part of a program ran by Fundalectura to promote literacy across South America.

I'm all for trying this in America.

Sixteenth Century Frenchman Devises Craiglist

Want to sell an old scythe? Need to hire a swineherd? These days, you'd use Craigslist. But five hundred years ago, that wasn't an option. Nonetheless, the idea behind Craiglist was present. Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592), a prominent French philosopher and writer, wrote about the business model that Craig Newmark would eventually develop:

My late father, a man of a decidedly clear judgement, based though it was only on his natural gifts and his own experience, said to me once that he had wished to set a plan in motion leading to the designation of a place in our cities where those who were in need of anything could go and have their requirements registered by a duly appointed official; for example: “I want to sell some pearls”; or “I want to buy some pearls.” “So-and-so wants to make up a group to travel to Paris”; ‘”So-and-so wants a servant with the following qualifications”; “So-and-so seeks an employer”; “So-and-so wants a workman”; each stating his wishes according to his needs.

It does seem that this means of mutual advertising would bring no slight advantage to our public dealings; for at every turn there are bargains seeking each other but, because they cannot find each other, men are left in extreme want.

How to Create Your Own Papercraft Bookmobile

Bookmobiles are awesome. There's an amazing sense of adventure in seeing a truck roll down the street full of books and wondering what you can get inside. While a paper bookmobile doesn't have that same sense of adventure, having a papercraft bookmobile to spice up your desk's design would still be amazing.  Over at illustrator Bob Staake's website, you can download the print file explaining how you can go about creating your own 3-D paper bookmobile.

What do fireworks look like when you see them backwards? Simply beautiful. Julian Tay recorded the New Year's Day fireworks display in Melbourne, Australia and reversed the image.

Gingerbread Star Trek Communicator

Somehow I have lived the past few years without having ever heard of Food Replicator, a Star Trek-themed food blog. Especially noteworthy is the author's attention to the delicacies of Ferenginar, such as jellied gree-worms. Yummy!

Above you can see a gingerbread version of the standard Starfleet communicators used during the original series. Here's how the author made it:

I cut out the pattern pieces on thick card paper and then used that to cut out the cookie pieces. I froze the dough before cooking as this helps it keep its shape.

I used royal icing (1 egg white, add icing sugar until the desired consistency is reached) for all decorations, as well as for gluing the pieces together.

Toothpicks and scrunched up pieces of plastic wrap are both very useful to use as prop-ups while waiting for the royal icing to dry when gluing the pieces together.
