Typically, I'll use the self check because it's faster. I don't know why, in America, we have to wait so long to pay someone to buy the goods their selling.
Fruit and pepper is suprisingly good. Have you ever had something like carmelized pears with blue cheese and pepper caramel sauce? (recipie from America's Test Kitchen) I wasn't sure about it until I made it but it's seriosly tasty.
There's still a landline phone in our house. We prefer it to the mobile. Cell service here is decent but with all the gadgets and a home solidly built, service is not always guaranteed to be the greatest. About two years ago, our one "real corded phone" (in case of emergency and power outage) needed to be replaced. Since, I love old tech I went on eBay and purchased a nice wall mount black Bakelite rotary phone. I love the thing. Using it comes with an added bonus of not misdialing nearly as much and a certain sense that talking on the phone is a thing not to be taken flippantly. I like to refer to it as the "conversation" phone. The phone's loud ACTUAL ring (bell and hammer) can be startling and especially to guests who don't know we have it. One friend was completely astonished after the phone rang because we had a land line and a "real" phone.
After the winter we've been having in the Chicago area, I'm seriously contemplating moving to warmer climes! Things wouldn't be so bad, but I have to go out and drive around for my job...brrrrrr! At this rate my irrational fear is: wearing so many layers that when I fall down I can't get up ala Ralphie's brother in "A Christmas Story" and no one will find me in all the snow.
Clever, very clever. It took me a second but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else. That IS a great shot. I'm assuming the light levels have to be ideal.
I think that the pic and end of the article didn't load correctly on my ipad. That seems to happen pretty often, so tech fail = my bad. I would reply but I can't do that either, I'm sure it's an iOS compatibility issue which is again likely due to not updating.
Greyhounds are certainly goofy little self-entertainers. Not sure if it's the training from the track or just greyhound nature but those dogs love to run in circles and then look so pleased with themselves. Watching this makes me miss the one we had when I was in high school. She also loved the snow despite our being told "oh they HATE the cold, and you have to dress them up in a coat which they also probably won't like." Granted, we had to make her come inside for her own good because they have so little body fat (hence the need for the coat.)
Before reading the corresponding article I was wondering why it was so difficult to get out and why no one had thought to tip it on its side. The article makes a very important point the recap does not: it was a stacked machine with a dryer over it.
Perhaps there was something with the make up schedule too? Of course if everyone is breaking for lunch at the same time and all the scenes had mixed groups of characters then either there is another explanation or this is as creepy as it seems.
Glass contained would be fine. Generally fresh cut is not easy to burn, but bark tends to burn regardless. Plus, the blog post about that project indicates that "Unfortunately, it sat and sat in my garage for too long," after the author indicates she picked it up for its intended project. Seasoned firewood + flame = bonfire (at least where I come from.) Not to mention the flamibility of the wax itself...
How is the act of lighting tea candles in a log NOT a huge fire hazard??? Maybe I'm just confused but that seems like a very bad idea, particulary doing so indoors.
