I love the way the quoted piece starts with a basic grammatical error which should have any self-respecting sub-editor tearing out any remaining hair: "Built by AirDock, Smokey and Bill used 3 bladders...". Implying, of course, that Smokey and Bill, rather than the bladders, were built by AirDock. Super!

'Midland' isn't a place. 'The Midlands' is a region of England (kinda like you Americans have 'The Midwest' rather than a 'Midwest').

Perhaps the research will continue somewhere else in the world (note for US readers: 'The World' is that big place out there where nothing of interest ever happens). I've heard rumors that there are some countries, for instance 'socialist paradises' like Sweden, where medicine still *is* done to help people, not to make profits.
