Last year, I found myself suddenly w/o health insurance and within a week, I was covered for free visits to the doctor. MY doctor. Not just any doctor.

I had to pay for my meds, but you can go to Walmart or shop around for the cheapest place to buy them.

There is NO reason for this woman to not have had medical care. She either did not understand how to get it or there's more to the story.

How do you think all the illegals get care here w/o health insurance? They go to the hospital ER and then they don't pay. Easy.

Americans can do it, too. Although many won't and prefer to set up payments.

I once paid off an unexpected ER bill at a hospital in Austin at 10 dollars a month. Hospitals are not evil, they will work with you.

I live in Hawaii and am so fed up with how Japanese it is here. Sometimes, you don't even feel like you are in America. It's overkill times 1000.

An artist makes choices to make art. Chance can play a role, of course, but nothing done ONLY by chance can be a real work of art! People who cannot see cannot make visual choices, cannot make INFORMED visual choices and can only depend on sighted people to tell them what the result looks like and in what ways it needs to be altered to make it look like it was purposefully made.

If it is a real secret postcard, it's a good example of what can happen when you go live somewhere where you are 1) not legal and/or 2) not encouraged to or able to forge an attachment to the place you live.

Young illegals very often are encouraged to think of the country they left behind as home, by their elders. I saw this all the time in France with the North African illegal and immigrant population.

They very openly speak of their hate of France and their love of a country they hardly know. And they don't feel welcome because they are always somewhere that belongs to other people and refuse to even try to fit in.

Being an illegal is always uncomfortable. It takes its toll.

As for the ''perfectly crafted'' Steinbeck book... I can't think of anything perfect about the story. Popular works, or even well-liked works are not necessarily ''perfect'' ones. Even Steinbeck was shocked when he won the Nobel.

No matter what some people think of the Twilight books/films, the whole ''let's trash Twilight'' at any opportunity meme is still unreal to me.

Make fun of it. Parody it. Whatever. But the fact that there are so many of you out there SO willing and ready to bash Twilight makes me think that there is more going on than just the supposed lack of ''qaulity' of the stories.

I have heard so many people rave about the Charlaine Harris vampire stuff. I decided to read one. It sucked. Nothing original about it. And the detailed descriptions of the hard sex that the main character has with the vampire were totally offputting. Much prefer the romanticism of Twilight.

But, no, everyone loves the Harris stuff.

Makes no sense to beat up one author for her failings as a writer when another gets a pass for the same failings.

NO, she's no SuBo. The voice ages like all the rest of the body and her voice is past any hopes of matching SuBo, for sure.

She's cute and it's nice to give a older woman her time in the spotlight. Maybe she can become an idol to her own generation. ? It's a market waiting to be tapped.

But on a par with SuBo? Not possible.
