Hey Christian, champagne is wine.

dermot..... Good thought!

(will let him slide though since it was neato)

Wow 4 out of 5 comments had gravitars. Might be a record?

Kalel, that was a hint. Hut Hut.

Last time I looked our boomers and attack boats
weren't operating anywhere close to P3's. Seems to me all those buoys present a much larger target than sticking a comm antenna barely above the surface.

My last duty station was at Navy Radio Transmitter Facility (NRTF) Annapolis (NSS-9) MD. We put out LF and VLF submarine broadcasts. Since radio freqs are inversely proportional to the size of their transmitters ours were so large you could walk around inside of them. Not while transmitting of course. GGGG You could hold a fluorescent light bulb above your head outside at night and it would glow like a light saber from the residual RF from our humongous top hat antenna. (Antenna was so tall you could see DC 25 miles away from the top.) Was really neat to see them glowing like crazy! Just don't touch the two metal contacts on the bulb or you might start
glowing also. Or at the very least be picking your sorry butt off the ground. GGGG NAA Cutler ME was another East coast
sub bcst site. If both of us were off the air for longer than a minute the subs would start getting ready to launch their missiles. NSS-9 was shut down donno if NAA is still operating.

Kalel - They have a lot more to keep them busy than mundane things like the Internet.

60% but maybe I should demand acknowledgment that I got 100% since that's what I wanted. GGGGG

Not that it matters but sideburns were originally called burnsides since they were named after General Burnside. Wonder why it got turned around.

(if I knew it was that easy I never would have gotten all those C's)

Neal - I am very familiar with General Myer. In 1977
I was a radioman in the military detachment of the USNS (U.S. Naval Ship) Albert J Myer (T-ARC 6). She was a cable layer and was originally operated by the U.S. Army. I find it interesting that General Myer joined the Army as a surgeon. He is the father of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Lastly, he is also the father of the U.S. Weather Bureau.

Rockit - I'm no expert on railroad stations but I do know a bit about English. Largest has nothing to do with being the busiest. Perhaps you would learn the difference before tossing around the word rubbish.
BTW word definitions are facts also.

A great scene from a great movie.

For a long time I had believed it was filmed at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. I had read that some where. If not mistaken there are some signed photographs of the actors hanging on the walls in the bar. So when I wound up at Singapore once I had to go to Raffles and have a Singapore Sling. It was invented there. Recently I have found that the movie was not filmed there after all. CRUD. It was a nice idea even if not true.

The hotel used to stand at the edge of the jungle. One night a tiger wandered into the bar and was shot by the bartender under a pool table. Then again it was probably a billiards table knowing the Brits and all.

Ummmm, I don't think the one shaped like a shark is the greatest idea. Might come across some Jaws fan with a .30-06!

(never wanted to see that movie and so far I still haven't)

(G. Peck as Ahab is another story)

(how come so many sea captains are nut jobs in the movies)

(Ahab and Lcdr Queeg for two)

I can only echo what the others have said. Never seen it actually performed either.

Alex, go sit in the corner and hang your head. Now!
Take Kalel with you.

Alex - NICE! What a joy to watch that. Craftsmanship
at it's best. Maybe there's hope yet.

How many people own a Linotype? What a marvel of engineering it is. The binding by itself showed even more
the love of their art the people had.

Bless you Alex!

This might be a tad off topic but that never stopped me before. I have no idea where I got it from but I have always loved quality printing. I found this short documentary a few years ago. I hope you can get as much joy from it as I have. The beauty of this dying art almost brings tears to my eyes.

Good point. GGGG

I think it's just a photo taken while she was singing that captured an unflattering instant in time.

(on second thought I don't want to know)

The 'sailor' is a disgrace. A seaman (E-3) with 9 ribbons pushes all bounds of credulity. Plus no self respecting sailor would ever carry a sea bag like that! Looks like a real dork. A real sailor slings it up and carries them on their shoulder. Lastly no sailor would tuck his neckerchief inside the jumper like that. I sure hope the USN hasn't turned into this.

@Vonskippy - Here's a helpful tip you are obviously unaware of. Most all video windows have a button in the lower left that looks like two vertical lines. It's the pause button. Click it. Then if you use a browser with tabs click the X on the far right of the tab. If this is too hard to understand you can skip the pause button part. Try this a bunch of times and hopefully your life will be much more perfect. If you don't have tabs then click the Back button in the upper left corner of your browser.

Cheers.
