I was never taught to use two spaces. As far as I'm aware a space is a space, the size of the space is irrelevant but should be consistent. So if you leave one space between two words then you should leave one space after a full stop (a period is something else altogether).
Do you leave a doubly large space after a full stop when handwriting?
I'm so sick of all the supposedly "green" people who claim all their energy comes from renewable sources. Sorry people, it doesn't really work like that. Just because you buy your energy from a supplier who claims to be green doesn't mean you are only using renewable energy at any given time.
I accept that providers who only buy from renewable sources are a step in the right direction, but many of the smugs who buy from them don't see the real picture.
The trouble is that while these suppliers do buy their energy from renewable sources this does not mean that at any given time there as much enough renewable sourced energy being supplied to the grid for all their customers. It's a calm, cold evening in winter. There's no solar energy hitting the grid. There's no supply of wind energy. However demand is high, because it's cold and dark and there's a popular TV show on too. Yes there's still hydroelectric dams* supplying the grid, but as far as renewable engergy in the UK goes that's about it on any reasonable scale. So where are all the smug customers of these renewable suppliers getting the energy to heat and light their homes, power their TV and boil the kettle in the advert break. Why, fossil and nuclear power of course.
The way the market between generators and suppliers works means that the customers still get power. It's balanced out by the fact that at times there is more renewable energy hitting the grid than is used by the people buying into the renewable budget plans.
* I'm not even sure that, with the damage to their immediate environment hydroelectric dams can be considered truly green.
Physical violence should only be used in response to physical violence. Those who resort to physical violence out of temper (as this guy clearly did) are no more mature than the average toddler. It doesn't really matter if the victim had been a grown man, physical violence would not have been a proportionate response in this situation.
Even a ten year old could probably have dealt with this without resorting to physical violence.
@Arbiter the theory is that with enough velocity the suit can climb, but gravity being the power source the only way to gain this velocity would be vertically. Then of course you'd need the strength to turn that downward velocity into another direction. Even if you could do it, judging the landing would be a nightmare. Too late and you hit the ground at speed. Too early and you run out of speed too high above the ground, it takes a few seconds of dropping to build up glide speed so in this scenario you wouldn't get back up to glide speed before you hit the ground. So too soon or too late would hurt too much.
@Paul877 OK then let's see you do it with or without the boxes. Please. I'm sure we'd all love to see it.
The real skill here was hitting the boxes. Even with the boxes the vast majority of sky divers wouldn't even have attempted this.
There is talk of it being possible to pull this off without the boxes onto a hill. Basically the jumper would have to actually descend to below the level of the hill and then lose horizontal speed by climbing. Possible in theory, but I wouldn't want to trust my life to that theory.
John I think this sort of "security" would just encourage the thief to steal your ice cream because the device was there. Indeed I think it would encourage some to become a thief just to stick it to you.
@Astrogoth where are the extra parts you speak of? I can see nothing obvious on there that isn't a 2CV part. Nor do I see any need for welding. An excelent fab job and the friction drive to the rear wheel is remarkably inventive.
She has a bass guitar built into a C64 case. What's badass about that? Bass players just aren't badass. Consider Deacon, Redding and McCartney. Nice guys? Sure. Excellent musicians? Without a doubt. Badass? Not a bit of it.
If I want to sound cool do I tell people I play bass or guitar? Well actually neither, but if I did it would be guitar.
Proof my ass! It was clear that the audience had been rehearsed and they were reading the words too.
Chat shows are rehearsed until they scream for mercy. Not only are the interviews rehearsed and/or scripted, but the audience are rehearsed too. That audience will have spent some considerable time practicing their part with the warm up man.
I was 11 when I saw the movie on it's release. I'd already read the book at school. Yes it's a very dark story, but it isn't something that kids of that sort of age shouldn't be able to deal with. Very educational, without being too traumatic. However it's obviously worthwhile warning kids before they watch or read it that it isn't a happy fairy story about bunny-wunnies.

Oh, and secondly a meatball sandwich? Really>
BTW most kids wouldn't think the kid had been shamed by this. They would feel the kid had been shamed by having a jerk for a mother.
