Hard to fathom someone winning the ultimate award in your field and then dumping it into storage as Paltrow did. Then again, as Clark Gable said, "Its winning the award that counts...not owning it.". Great post Eddie.
Let us not forget too the very popular and classic episode of The Twilight Zone with Jack Klugman & Jonathan Winters (his character based on Minnesota Fats). One of my favorite episodes. ESPN used to show professionals having trick shot tournaments. Alwas fun to watch.
Sad ending to a great man's life but at 100 years old, you have to pretty much expect his condition. Nice insight Eddie. p.s. You have the year wrong for his 100th birthday. It should be 2003, not 2000.
Great piece Eddie. I'm wondering if JFK was perhaps a little nervous watching Marilyn Monroe movies, especially if Jackie was with him rather than not liking them. Be like taking your wife out to dinner and being seated at the table right next to your mistress. As Ricky Ricardo would say..."Luuuucy...you have some esplaining in to do!"
Nice insight Eddie. Haven't seen the film but thought it was cool that The Monkees got their name from it...kind of like the theory that The Beatles took their name from The Wild One.
Marilyn always gave off that persona of being someone with a huge heart. Doesn't surprise me one bit that she was fond of animals and they were fond of her. I feel bad for Muggsie though. If I became affectionate with Marilyn Monroe and then it stopped, I would have died of a broken heart too.
Usually whichever of the Lennon/McCartney team wrote most or all of the song took the lead vocal except for when they specifically wrote for George or Ringo. With John being the original choice to sing lead it makes me think he was the main contributor of the song, especially with the harmonica being the main ingredient. So maybe Sir George Martin was correct in saying it was Johns. Great info Eddie!
Punch Drunks has always been my favorite 3 Stooges short. I still laugh hysterically when Larry runs down the street sped up. If you had to try and explain the Stooges to someone who had never seen or heard of them before, play them Punch Drunks. They'll understand immediately! Great piece Eddie.
Great insight Eddie. I especially like knowing another slang for prostitutes is "Apples". Makes you wonder then what the stem refers to??? Great subject Eddie!
Interesting take Eddie. The way I see it, is that they were for young kids who became adults. I always wondered if each of them sometimes regretted the breakup of the Beatles. Perhaps had Beatlemania not occurred to the degree that it did they may have remained together and continued performing for years afterwards. I think the pressure of being a Beatle and having everyone expect everything you do to be PERFECT and the rule to live by just got to be too much.
Oh this one I'll have to watch. Can't wait....or maybe I can. Thanks Eddie. I do remember watching Lucy Lawless host SNL once. She was part of the now famous sketch where Will Ferrell played an art sculpting class model. Classic!
Never met Bing Crosby but did meet Bob Hope once. His persona was everything you would expect. I actually made him laugh. Me. I made him laugh. That's like showing The Beatles a new guitar chord. Nice piece Eddie.
p.s. You have the year wrong for his 100th birthday. It should be 2003, not 2000.
