According to the What is it blog, these were used by a French comic book character. Oysters give him strength to fight Roman occupation, like spinach for Popeye. This is Asterix's oyster ax.
The top 2 are used for pruning grape vines. I know prunes come from plums not grapes, but if you will follow my raisoning, its a combination of a billhook for snedding and a axe: a snax, if you will. The bottom one is called a knax, for obvious reasons.
In the old days, antiques weren't what they are now, and shooting galleries were all the rage. The most popular being the "antique shooting" galleries. That's right, you could shoot at fine china plates and stemware, but, they made you wear these funny yellow glasses, or they wouldn't let you do it. You guessed it, these are "antique shooting" glasses. If you hit 3 plates in a row you won a neat-o-rama t-shirt.
Congratulations Berhard. This certainly was an interesting item to consider. I found a listing of one of these for sale. The seller has this to say: #0841 Model 1874 Chittendon-Rice patented “Trowel Bayonet” for use with the Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle. This was a failed brainstorm where the Army decided to combine a foxhole digging tool with a bayonet. It was supposed to be used WITHOUT the rifle, but soldiers found the rifle was a handy handle for the bayonet and would get dirt on the rifle bores when using this as a shovel rather than a trowel. These were only made for a little over a year with just a few thousand made, but were in use during the Indian Wars.
It is a spade bayonet off of a US Calvary Springfield Trapdoor rifle circa 1873. This the type of weapon used by the men of Custer's Seven Cavalry at the Battle of Little Big Horn.
If you are familiar with "Treasure Island", you will recall the luau when John Silver is barbecuing ribs and he almost burned off his beard rearranging the fire, that's what inspired him to invent the device pictured above: Long Tong Silvers.
