Carrie was always great as Leia, but Han Solo and Lando Calrissian were also made generals in RotJ. They handed out the title like Star Trek gave out captaincies. Even Luke eventually got it in the comics (now non-cannon).
Firefly/Serenity also exists in the same universe as Alien and Blade Runner, thanks to a Weyland-Yutani Easter egg. Technically, the same could be said of the Firefly and Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, as a firefly-class ship is shown, but that seems pretty tenuous. And, I'm not sure how well-known this is, but Soldier has strong ties to Blade Runner. Screenwriter David Peoples (who also co-wrote Blade Runner) considers it a "spin-off sidequel"-spiritual successor.
