We've got the Plague of Catpoo at the moment. One cat is very elderly and during the winter we relented and let her have a litter tray. Trouble is, she's decided that even now summer's here she ain't going back to the garden.
The kitten doesn't yet know any better and when not having hissing fights with the old cat she just follows the leader and uses the tray.
I guess we're stuck with it until the old one pops off.

I'm often amused by people's ideas of how good technology is. Sure, there are some very clever techniques that make planes (and other vehicles) hard to spot with current radar systems. But that doesn't mean they're invisible to radar - just harder to see. Improved radar comes along - and meanwhile you can still see it visually and hear it, and however cleverly the thermal signature is hidden it's still there if you know how to look.
Foreigner1 is right - it's part of a spread of available tools and would be chosen to play a particular role. It's not the be-all and end-all of everything - just as no other weapon has been over the years. Vastly powerful fusion weapons once appeared to be the end of weapons development. For a while no one could see beyond them. As it turns out they were probably something of a dead end.

What would be really nice would be to spend some of the money doing something rather more useful. Like being nice to people.

When I was a kid we lived in a place where no one would /ever/ have a gnome, far too infra-dig. One night someone planted one in someone else's garden. For weeks after it moved from garden to garden as people shifted it away from their own. Dunno where it went in the end, though.

Better known as "My Little Cash Cow". Each time Hasbro is short of a few quid they think of a new name, glue another sticker on its arse and send it out the door.
Luckily our daughter has just discarded everything pink and fluffy - just in time for our son to get into Warhammer 40k. Bother.
