I lived in Chattanooga, TN, when I was too young to remember. Otherwise, I've lived in a tiny town in PA (>400 people), a small town in PA (>4,000 people) and a small city in PA (~40,000 people). Out of those choices, I prefer the small city, were it not filled with slews of unpleasant, old conservatives. I plan to move to Pittsburgh, though. Typical young person, I guess.
My mom used to be a mother-baby nurse, and took care of an immigrant woman who named her daughter Vaseline. I had a great aunt named Iona Boner. And way back in my family tree, there's Chrystal and Pearly Waters.
Fathers who lose their chicks are just as likely to have the same behaviour. In the end, it comes down to the biological need to be a parent, not the sexuality.
It is amazing, but it bothers me that they destroyed the metropolis. Maybe wyrda's right and they did save the colony... but still... I doubt a bunch of scientists could build what they just studied along with the fungus farms, trash heaps, etc. to make a thriving ant colony.
I understand the want to know what it's like.. but we have the technology to see that without damaging the colony. Maybe that particular expedition didn't, I don't know if you can get those machines that look like ultra-sounds for the ground or cameras on bendy sticks for the same price as several tons of cement...
What's horrid is that I made the same score. And I've been using Office 07 since... before it was released. But I suppose I only use Word and PowerPoint frequently. What's even worse than just the icons for the programs, the entire programs and menus and whantnot have been switched around. I'd be totally lost most of the time if I didn't know so many keyboard commands.
The prevalence of transphobia in the comments sickens me. I just said to my friend yesterday that Mr. Beatie was due soon. I've followed his story. I admire him so much for having the strength to both be openly trans and to have a child when his wife couldn't. It really is a beautiful thing. I hope the best for him and his family. :]
What am I talking about? The PSAs about "my friend's got (a) me(ntal illness)" make me sad. Great post.
