@Lynda if "preventing damage" is the goal where does one stop. Recent studies say running more than 25km a week is bad for you, so should we ban the marathon. What about American football and all the concern regarding head injuries. And all those athletes who shoot cortisone into aching joints only to end up with permanent damage. What about the mental state of children pushed by parents to excel, at the cost of a normal childhood. The list goes on. As for fair, what about all the technological advantages rich countries have over poor ones - better training facilities, better equipment, financial support, scientifically formulated diets. If we are going to be truly fair shouldn't all athletes have access to the same training and equipment. Where does one draw the line.
The way gigil is described in the article is not that accurate. You know how sometimes you get so excited you clench your jaw and sort of tense up your fists and jump in place. And utter some silly cutesy proclamation. Or you get the urge to "bunny rabbit nibble tickle" a baby's soft little belly. That's the essence of "gigil". Nothing overtly - or even slightly - aggressive about it. Or I guess we could start calling tickling "ha ha aggression". Or giving a raspberry "Bronx cheer aggression".
I was in accord with you for a while then I heard how ruthless he was. How he'd bully and blacklist and push anyone in front of the bus in order to better his career. He didn't care about anyone. Especially anyone who got in his way.
This shouldn't be on Neatorama. I think we all come to this sight for fun, interesting, quirky, cool, different, innovative things. Just look at the comments. Filled with anger - justifiably so - which is nevertheless so counter to the Neatorama vibe. Whatever may happen to Polanski I do hope this is the last of its kind on Neatorama.
Absolutely amazing. The mechanics behind the female shoe are so specific and limiting, to see someone push the envelope is a wonderful treat. Nice work, Julian Hakes. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Wait a second. Caitsville are you saying you have a right to voice your opinion but we don't have a right to voice our opinion about your opinion. That doesn't make any sense. Whatsoever.
How wonderful. And if it has been done before or done better so what. To see a bunch of friends willing and eager to join together and dance - for their friend's marriage - WOW - that's love. All the more true for the "bad" dancers. Most of us would have chickened out instead of doing the funky chicken. BEAUTIFUL. AWESOME. A musical come to life. Made my day.
Here is but one article about them - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/16/dining/16fort.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
Couldn't they have chosen a Peruvian or Brazilian or Bolivian.
Seems Billie was ahead of the times.
And still sort of is.
