I'm going to bookmark this. Then, in 2013 I'm going to pull this computer out of the closet (where it will have been since it's long obsolete), boot it up, and then read this article as I feast on plentiful tuna sashimi.
And I am going to laugh and laugh.

Flea circuses are a well-known hoax. Why in hell would you spend three months training a creature people can barely see, only for it to die three months later - when you can get the exact same effect by using magnets and shellacked flea carcasses glued to the end of a wire?

"Social Services do make mistakes (sometimes with tragic results), but they act in the best interests of the children involved. "
FALSE. Social Services act in the best interest of the State. NOT the children. NOT the families involved.

It's funny...the only thing that seems to be melting right now is this guy. Meanwhile, north Arctic ice is increasing at an incredible, record pace, and the antarctic ice sheet has been growing for the last year and a half.

The entire movie Until the End of the World was built around a guy who made such a machine.

As soon as I started reading this story, I KNEW this flooding would be blamed on "Global Warming," and I was right! The simple fact is that venice was built in a poor location - swampy islands right at sea level. It has flooded thousands of times over its history. The city is sinking due to old (now stopped) method of pumping groundwater out from under it. This, coupled with NATURALLY OCCURRING weather patterns, and shifting levels in the adriatic seas, are the most likely cause, not sensationalistic claims of 'global warming.' Such flippant talk makes me sick. See this article for more info:
http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2002/venice-1106.html
While the article also talks about rising sea levels, it doesn't glibly attribute them to global warming. Here's the money quote:
"The increased flooding is caused by two things: the city is sinking and sea level is rising.
After World War II, water needed by new industry was obtained by pumping groundwater from nearby areas. As the water table decreased, the islands began sinking. The practice of pumping groundwater was stopped shortly after the devastating flood of 1966, and the city is now sinking at the much lower rate of 0.4mm per year.
At the same time, the Adriatic Sea and other ocean waters have been rising at the rate of 1.6mm per year, PERHAPS DUE TO NATURAL CAUSES [emphasis added]. "It could be the ubiquitous sea level rise that occurs around the world and has been going on fairly consistently since the last glacial period," said Bras. "You can debate whether it is accelerating or not, but so far I see no evidence of acceleration."

The reason why the chinese translation did such a nice job defining the idiom may be due to the huge effort they put into updating their translation software prior to the olympics. There was a massive effort to get rid of chingrish statements in public - many of which were due to literally translated idioms. so it's reasonable to guess that part of the fix-it effort went into defining massive numbers of english idioms into understandable chinese definitions. Hence, the nice, succinct phrase.

Last I checked, Obama was worth millions himself. And as far as I know, he hasn't used a dime of it to help his destitute half-siblings. So it seems that Republicans aren't the only ones "all about" money, hmm? At least McCain uses several of his "unknown" abodes to house less fortunate family members.

I just LOVE how this has been headline news on cnn.com for over a week, while John Edwards cheating on his sick wife and fathering a child out of wedlock while running a presidential campaign is 'not news'.

“Cosmetic”?!? Just another example of how insurance companies have waaaaaay too much control over medical procedures."
Uhh, trish? Yeah, that's not an insurance company policy. That's the Oregon State public healthcare plan - supposedly a model for how the Democrat's plan should work. So I guess if you want that to pass, you better hope you never get shot in the face.
