It is a 32 caliber pistol. Manufactured by the Chicago Fire Arms Co. The model name is "Protector", patented in 1883.

When I was a kid (in the 70's) there was a PBS show called "ZOOM". There was a detailed segment where someone fashioned a pair of these water shoes. As I recall there was some type of louvred assembly on the bottom that propelled the walker when striding. Anyone up for a round of Ubbi Dubbi?
