I lived in England for a couple years and had the benefit of seeing a few other European countries in the meantime...what impressed me most was how walkable everything was. America is car oriented. While there are sidewalks here, you rarely seeing people use them. It's understandable as the roads in the States are made for cars, not pedestrians. In Europe I didn't drive, I walked everywhere without a second thought. Here in the States I feel like I have to take extra caution every time I cross an intersection.
