So were they correct about cigarettes being good for us, too?

I thought this had been exposed as a hoax weeks ago. It was quite obvious in the CG community that these were nothing but CG renderings of a 3D model passed off as a UFO. The quality of the rendering and compositing are spottable from a mile by anyone with any knowledge of the rendering software and its particulars.
So why does it keep coming back from the dead? The viral campaign explains a lot.

But I happen to think a good carving knife (or a good set of knives, actually) _is_ essential... ;-)

Fark.com. Some time ago they began to post "items of interest" that were actually paid ads. Men's Health was one of those sponsors, and was widely derided as one of the worst magazines on the planet. Just have a look-see for yourself.
I have nothing against advertising per-se, but do have something against disguising ads as blog posts, no matter how inane. Yes, I know - I don't have to read this blog or make snarky accusations, so maybe I won't anymore.

Let the Fark-ification continue....jeez, Men's Health? It's the male Cosmo, only not as smart. Aim a little higher, please.

"They gobbled up the resources around them, but failed to develop new technologies that might have allowed them to adapt to changes in their natural surroundings."
It's a good thing we learn from history so this will never happen again....oh, wait....

I thought that after the 70s they instituted rules for food photography where the food still had to be edible. It didn't have to be the actual ingredients, just edible. Could be wrong.
There's also a big difference between showing food in a movie or tv scene and its representaion in advertising, where there has to be some connection to the actual product.
I was originally a film major in college and the film dept. head was world famous for his ice cream commercials. I believe he had the Knudsen contract for, like, 20 years. We watched a 2 hour making-of doc on how to photograph ice cream. Not as sweet as it sounds, but still interesting.

And then there's that unappealing wholesale slaughter of an entire continents' indigenous peoples thing. But the parking sucks!
