It's possible, but I think it most likely has more to do with the dynamics of a small town. It's such an insulated environment that they established their own super-concentrated culture. I'd imagine they aren't too open to outside ideas or change.

I'm not even from a big city (in fact my mom is from a small town) but I had similar trouble when I moved to a small town for college. It's not just geographical groups either. Small religious groups, organizations, or ethnic populations can be similarly uninviting. Not exactly sure why that is except that change can be seen as threatening to the group identity.

aberguy, hold up. I don't think anyone reasonable is blaming the pilots or attendants for bad service on planes. Anybody who's ever had a service job knows you probably get the brunt of peoples' bad attitudes and appreciates what you do.

American cancels my flights on short notice 2/3 of the time, so I'm going to have to go with them. Why isn't Airtran on here? I never really have bad service on their flights, but their planes can be pretty junky and gross.

Best experiences domestically have been on SkyTeam flights, so Delta, Continental, and Northwest. But everybody knows the best airlines are out of Asia.

Frank,

I've heard of people leaving their own secrets in Post Secret books at the bookstore or in the library. I remember once you wrote about leaving a secret in a drawer in a hotel room, which struck me as being a unique way to accomplish the same thing.

So my question is: Where is the strangest place you have ever left a secret or heard of a secret being found?

Thanks.

It's bad enough that he continued to be rewarded for films he made while he was on the run. We get up in arms when we hear a child molester being released early from a sentence on the grounds of "good behavior" because surely such a person is incapable of such a thing... Oh, but it's Roman Polanski, so we'll treat the person and the crime separately.

It speaks more than a little to our hypocrisy as a society towards celebrities.

But I gotta agree, I read Neatorama to unwind, not get wound back up. =(

I've been following Cake Wrecks for a long time, and this is something I've always wondered about: Which wreck have you gotten the most repeat submissions of?

Regardless of the questions about Patone's believability, what about that math? Yeah okay, at standard price 2 liters of name brand soda might run you $4, but what about buying in bulk or buying off brands? I'm sure you could manage to find soda at just under $2/gallon that way... Still not ideal, but much better than the AP's estimate. Or does GEET not work with Dr. Thunder and Mountain Lightning?

I think including the Harry Potter "park" on this list is a little misleading. The Harry Potter thing is going to be a section inside of Islands of Adventure, one of the two theme parks at Universal Orlando. The wording makes it sound like a whole new theme park when actually they're just modifying an existing section of IOA, "The Lost Continent" and making it Harry Potter themed. It's like calling Future World a "theme park" at Disney's Magic Kindgom; it's really just a themed section of it.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the article. I'd like to make it up to Hershey Park one of these days. Saw a segment on Ocean Dome on the travel channel, and it looks as amazing as it sounds.
