I got to try "Cozido das Furnas" a stew made in the hot ground of the volcanic Furnas area of the Azorean island of SaƵ Miguel once. No joke, they have been doing this for centuries. It was certainly an interesting idea, but I can't say it was the best culinary experience I've had. It did not have much flavour apart from an overwhelming aroma of hydrogen sulfide...
