Great post! I was thinking of taking my kids to the fair today, but you confirmed my memories of the fair. I think I'll skip it. The robes on the sheep are called coats, and they are there to keep "vegetable matter" and dirt out of the fleece. Clean fleeces are important to hand spinners and are in greater demand and more expensive.
