Great photos, great thread.
Anonymous of Course Thanks for the context about that picture. If the photographer had shown the same man holding his grandson who had been killed by the Viet Cong, history might have been different.
About Ansel Adams, it is not fully accurate to say that he didn't manipulate his pictures. He spent a lot of time in the dark room developing his photos in different ways to get the effect he was looking for.

Can someone help me out here? Reagan served after Ford but died before him. That means someone who served before Ford would have to have to still be alive to make him the 38th to die. But after Ford's death, Carter is the longest to survive post-presidency.
Right?
Was there someone who was president twice with an interrupting between terms?

Exactly. Another example of plagiarism on the web.

Hear Hear,
The guy is getting help from some direction the end of his finger is bent, so there is some weight on it. More than I could put on mine, maybe, but not his entire body weight. A human finger couldn't stand it.
The "Pride of Chinese Nation" comment at the end cinches it.
Besides, those warm-ups looked pretty weak to me.

Traditional traps that kill mice instantly are humane. If you take a trapped mouse and relocate it it is likely to go back into your house or somebody elses or be attacked by a mouse who lives in the territory you introduced it to.
Inhumane traps are glue traps that cause mice to slowly die of thirst or poisons that cause them to hemmorrage internally.
A quick whap and a sudden end is preferable.

Scott Westerfeld's book Peeps is about vampires (though the characters avoid the "v" word). It explains vampirism as a form of parasitism and every other chapter is about real parasites, some of which are included in the preceding blog entry.
It also discusses toxoplasmosis (a parasite found in cat feces) and discusses evidence that it has influence the minds of humans.
Keep that litter box clean.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Viet Cong used rubber from tires to make sandals during our war over there.

Discussions of hillside chalk pictures inevitably turn to the The Cerne Abbas Giant or the Rude Man. Although Puritanism did start in England, it's hard to imagine American puritans letting something like that exist here.
