Bonfire night is often held at the weekend nearest the 5th if it's not on a weekend, having said that; here in Cambridge the organised local event was on the day.

It's more fun if you live in the country and have a big garden to have your own fire, at least that's how I remember it as a child.

There was an interesting programme with Richard Hammond about what might've happened, includes big explosion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gunpowder_Plot:_Exploding_The_Legend

I don't really think it has any political meaning to most people now (I'm half Irish and never heard them being described as martyrs), it's just a night for fun and baked potatoes!

They did point out that it was probably lucky it did fail as there would've likely been a massive uproar against the small Catholic population.

I'm a bit dumb, I thought the Smack was amusing because it's like spanking 'doh, pot & smack, I live such a sheltered life.

Pot Noodle is a national institution, both loved for funny adverts and derided at the same time. It's probably a student staple.

Living in Cambridge I've bumped into him twice, once where he seemed to be debating if he really wanted to go for a pizza with his the person pushing, the other was in an almost run you down incident. My brother said he once nearly ran over his foot.

You always double take, blimey that was was Stephen Hawking, but people just walk on by.

It's a common misconception that the US has 52 states and 52 stars in the flag. I've no idea where it came from, but a lot of people think that in the UK.

Those arms were made in my home town, Basingstoke in the UK.

I don't really like it; if there was something printed on some other chain stuff, like 'god doesn't exist' you'd have a bunch of crazies up in arms.

I'd rather just see the ingredients than preaching.

I thought this sounded familiar: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/1916481.stm

I'm sure there was a more recent one as well on ice and someone made one on the UK show, Scrapheap Challenge.
