Except the prosecuting attorney will simply file a motion for a change of venue citing the fact that you must be tried by a jury of your peers and there are none in that area.

Those firemen in their underwear kinda makes me want to go get stuck in the mud myself. And, trust me, if they asked me to undo my trousers, I'd happily oblige.

I frequently have sleep paralysis with hypnagogic hallucinations. And insomnia. And, apparently, exploding head syndrome. Though I was never told that when I was diagnosed at the sleep clinic. I always assumed the loud noises and voices were part of the hallucinations. Altogether they're in the same group of hypnagogic sleep disorders.

For those of you that get sleep paralysis, let me share something I learned at the sleep clinic. Focus all your attention on trying to move one small part of your body. I usually focus on the fingers of my right hand. Try to remain calm and remember that as soon as you start to move that part of your body, everything else will follow and you will be awake almost instantly. This is not always easy because for some people (like me), the hallucinations are very vivid and insanely terrifying. That's because the part of your brain that deals with fear is firing away like crazy. I've never felt fear like that in real life. Usually I'm hallucinating that some evil creature is crawling up from under the bed and grabbing me. Or that something malevolent is coming up the stairs toward my bedroom. And I can't move. With practice I've been able to wake myself using the above method.

Not a very good article. It was difficult to follow.

How could she remember "scores of events from her past, many of which had occurred up to 25 years before" when she died at the age of 18?

Also, Richard Hodgson was not "a notoriously skeptical researcher into psychic phenomena." He was notorious for doing a 180 and becoming an ardent believer in psychic phenomena after once claiming himself a skeptic. Furthermore, his supposed careful study of the case amounted to nothing more than interviewing whatever witnesses remained in neighborhood more than ten years after the whole thing was over. He never even spoke to Lurancy Vennum.

Yes, I could have found a high paying job right out of high school. In a factory, for example, where I could be laid off at any given time. However, I wanted to be a librarian. To be a "real" librarian (the highest pay/responsibilities/ability for advancement)you must have a masters degree. So I got one. I owe more in student loans than I owe on the house I bought this summer. There is no way I'll ever be able to pay the student loans off on a public librarian salary. I've been paying hundreds of dollars every month for 5 years and it hasn't even made a dent. But I have a great job with great benefits and job security. It sucks, but that was the trade-off.

No, it's not like being asked if I want windchimes up. It's like being asked if I want my medical provider to start talking to a make-believe man in the sky. And, no, I don't want that. I want excellent medical care from a sane rational human being. If I were the patient, I would have called and asked she not be sent back either.

I personally don't see how this is "useless crap", neatoman. Some people actually DO think it is neat to be informed regarding politics and current affairs. He's the president. He's making policy that affects us all.

Thank you, Neatorama, for bringing this to my attention. I'll be checking the Obamameter regularly.

I'm assuming that when he says he's going to try to raise his children differently he means that he'll be raising them to AVOID people of other races, not try to raise them to mix socially and romantically. Because if I were anyone but white, I'd stay far far away from Hitler, Aryan Nation and Hinler. You know what? I am white and I'll still be staying far away from them.

The 9 year old wasn't "traipsing" across the city. He was going from one place to another. I was nine the first time I decided to ride my bike to my best friend's house entirely on my own. She lived on the other side of our small town (about a mile away). It was a wonderful experience to navigate the small world around me entirely on my own. I felt a real sense of accomplishment.

A nine year old has the mental and physical capacity to make the trip. I'm a small woman. My ten-year-old nephew is nearly as big as I am now. If someone much larger than myself attacked me, I couldn't fend them off either. Does that mean I should hide in my hotel when I make my first visit to New York City in a couple weeks?

For a fascinating look at how children have lost their right to roam over the past several generations resulting in an increase in mental health problems, check out this article.
