Comedy is simply used to make the current state of affairs more palatable to listen to. The only thing that's unfortunate about getting your news from The Daily Show (and The Colbert Report for that matters) is that many people probably aren't smart enough to filter out the bias and the jokes from the actual news (and in most cases, the biting commentary.)

I'll get my news from The Daily Show any day if it means that the alternative is 24 hours of hot air made to fill time, or the relentless reporting of every time a celebrity wipes their ass.
