Wonderful thing, I love the architecture of the front end. There's no practical need for that glass structure it's purely cosmetic. Oh for a time when governments cared about such things. Incidentally half of it is missing. IIRC they originally hauled a trailer about the same size as the coach.

Seems pretty slow and complex when compared with, say, a 200cc motorcycle. Will that do anything as well a 200cc motorcycle? And how much does it cost? Looks like it's made of fail to me.

Well maybe this is just a stateside thing. I just measured a few pairs of my trousers. All came in within 1/2" of the stated 32" waist.

But then anybody who's waist measures 41" shouldn't be wearing trousers. A muumuu would be more suitable.

I know a number of classical musicians who not only admire many heavy metal musicians, but spend a lot of their time listening to this type of music. It's interesting that those who know music admire these musicians whereas those who don't are quick to criticize.

In the Conisbrough, England residents of Butt Hole Road recently had the name changed to Archers Way. Shame. It always used to make me smile as I drove past. Happilly it still shows up under it's original name in Google maps.

Not far away in Sheffield is the road Letsby Avenue, where the police helicopter is based. Brits will get the joke, maybe not so much in the rest of the world.

@Tim Etherington - Maybe it is where you live, but in the country where the hamburglar committed his crime (and the home of the language) a rasher is definitely a single slice.

Happy Days was pretty dire from the get go, so a downward spiral wasn't really possible. In that respect he's right, it wasn't the start of a downward spiral.

However he seems to miss the point. He witters on about popularity and longevity as if either were some sort of measure of quality. Yeah that's right all popular shows are quality TV. All popular shows are good. Actually popularity seems to be a really good way of identifying a poor TV show.

Not quite. These airbags can't work like normal interior airbags. Or rather, if they do they won't save anybody.

Conventional airbags inflate when the vehicle hits an object. They inflate so quickly that they are deployed before the occupants are thrown against the hard parts of the interior. If these airbags deploy on impact they could well add to the injuries of the pedestrian. These bags need to deploy an instant before impact if they are to cushion the impact.

OK so that isn't actually impossible, but given the costs of resetting airbags after an accident the system would need to be foolproof in order that it won't push insurance costs through the roof. Cars are now quite easilly written off with minimal damage because the cost of resetting the airbags exceeds the value of the car. If these bags deployed for a false positive the vehicle could end up being written of with no damage other than the cost of the airbags being deployed. Imagine for example somebody steps out in front of your car you steer one way, they jump the other and you narrowly miss them, but the airbags deploy anyway having detected the obstacle. Your car is written off by the insurers because it will cost thousands to reset all those airbags. Would you really want your car to be written off because of this incident?

On the subject of the compensation culture:

A guy sued a TV dealer because he bought a TV from them and burned out the PSU by plugging the 115V device into a 230V supply and the TV company refused to accept liability for the damage.

The guy sued for a few hundred for the price of the TV, which is OK although he still deserved to lose. But the icing on the cake was he added several thousand to the suit for "mental anguish" or some such crap. It's in this sort of situation where claimants should be prosecuted.

Way to go.

The dealer makes himself look like the good guy and Lautner look like a jerk in one simple move.

So the dealer says I'll pay the 40K win or lose. I win the kids get it, I lose Lautner gets it. And looks like the good guy. Lautner looks like an uptight jerk because he's demanding the $40K he can probably easily afford to write off at the potential expense of a childrens' charity?

And come on, how does an RV rental leave him $40K out of pocket? It's about time this compensation culture was knocked on the head. People suing for more than they can prove they are *actually* out of pocket should be prosecuted for attempted fraud.

@Melissa, it's too damned late for that now. After getting his legal team to issue that statement anything his does no will look like a damage limitation excercize and make him look worse.

@Rocky. We don't want or need your tolerance. You'd be a merkin would you? Funny that christian yanks are the least tolerant people on the planet.

"Somebody has left SOME cheese in the fridge."

Problem solved.

Given the Grauniad's legendart inability to get through a single sentence without making a howling error I don't see Lucy Mangan's problem.

All christianity is "mutant". There are many christian churches, each with their own interpretation of the faith. None of these churches practices christianity as it was originally practiced. Indeed I doubt the early christians would recognise any form of christianity practiced today.

The interesting thing is that many of the schisms that have formed the new churches have been because those forming the new church believed that their mother church was only interested in serving itself and not its followers.
