As a writer and lecturer I'm often confused about this :
One, why is they a problem, but nobody campaigns for a return to thou , thy, thee and thine
Two, English is not French there is no L'Académie française equivalent. "Rules" are just opinions. The benefit of English is that it is free to evolve.

Some quotes:
Do not argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience- Mark Twain
God send every one their heart's desire!- Shakespeare
Every body began to have their vexation - Jane Austen
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes - Oscar Wilde
Every fool can do as they're bid - J. Swift,

I'm not sure why this is on neatorama as bariatric ambulances have been around for quite a while and obviously the population of many countries is getting heavier. So it does seem a deliberately provocative post. And there are good reasons such as PWS and edema why people might weigh more.

Having said all that I'm fairly fat myself (purely my own fault), if you want to be reminded what's typical weightwise try shopping for clothes.
In the US - I'm a medium
In the UK - large to XL
In Taiwan - XXL is normally too small

Since I now live in Taiwan the most effective dieting technique I've found is to try clothes shopping before lunch and dinner.

My impression is that apart from differences in the typical frame between countries(for Taiwan anyway) the most obvious explanation is in the amount of food eaten. Portions in the UK are significantly bigger than in Taiwan and the the US is truly the land of plenty.

The problem Leah is trying to recall is Prader-Willi Syndrome which it may well be however since there are no easy tests for this it is hard to say.

If it is PWS then three normal sized meals a day will be far too many calories. I've worked with PWS sufferers who've remained extremely fat on diets of less than a thousand calories a day. The combination of a disorder that means the body needs almost no food and yet tells the brain it is constantly starving always seemed very cruel.

I only hope that the cause is something more treatable and that his parents are able/willing to deal with it.
