"If you were in North or South America, and had to go to Copenhagen with a large group, how would YOU handle it?"
I'd take a group of them in my 20-person private jet, instead of flying in it alone. Or, use these strange things called 'commercial flights', rather than create a new flight with all of it's new pollution. Either way, I'd then take the same group from the airport in a chartered bus. There's no reason to take 20 private planes and twenty cars of any type when the same group of people can get from the same place to the same place in 1 plane and 1 wheeled vehicle. And yes, alot of people will end up on a similar route, at least in part. Most from the US, for example, end up in NY, and go from there to London, then to Copenhagen.
A big conference will cause more pollution than if the conference didn't take place, but there are very easy ways to minimize that pollution. If these anti-pollution, pro-environment people were that serious, they'd find a way to minimize, but many simply refuse. Many of them are green to look good, not help the Earth. Not all, of course, but far too many.

A textured surface will have lower drag, and therefor, be more efficient, than a smooth surface, all else being equal. It would take some research to determine the right texture, but it could be done. However, most people seem to be forgetting that the myth was that a normal dirty car would get better MPG due to a dimple-like effect. The chances of normal dirt, dust, mud, and other road grime just happening to provide this effect are virtually non-existent. If the real world, the highly irregular pattern will add parasitic drag and lower fuel efficiency. Even if (or more likely, when) textured surfaces become common, dirt will affect MPG even more in the wrong direction.

my apologies in advance for the upcoming wall 'o' text
first, to caveman:
1. the only people i killed in Iraq were people who were engaged in the process of shooting at me (and, on more than one occasion, succeeding)
2. yes, the marine corps did pay for my education after i was wounded (minor wounds, luckily, though many others weren't so lucky) and returned home. it is not why i joined, nor was i "brainwashed" into signing up. i joined to serve my country; a country that allows you the freedom to make the statements you made without censorship (or worse) and is trying to bring that same freedom to other people. am i somehow evil for that? should we let those people suffer just because they're on the other side of planet?
3. don't assume i'm trying to make you stop speaking your mind; i'm only attempting to open it, and (hopefully) get you thinking before condemning actions of which you know nothing. still, if you choose to keep your mind closed and continue posting astoundingly moronic remarks such as these, so be it. you have that right. which is more than billions of other people have
4. if my joining the military and fighting people who want to kill me (and you, for that matter) due only to your nationality, and are willing to kill their own people in the process, in an attempt to bring freedom to millions of people somehow offends you, then i apologize for offending you. though i will not apologize for the choices i've made, and i would not hesitate to make the same choices again
as for the article, well, all i can say is, "things change". it remains to be seen if this change becomes the new standard, and whether or not it is a change for the better, but the fact remains: things are changing. no method is perfect. hopefully, this will be an improvement. and, hopefully, it will changed again if it is not. in either case, only time will tell

Moon, the difference between a highway and a road/street is that one is officially designated as a highway. the other is not. this is particularly true in rural areas, where county roads (and similar streets) often look exactly like official highways. it is unusual for a non-highway to go on that long, but if isn't listed as a highway, then technically speaking, it isn't one
