Yay for Chibi Maruko-chan and Anpanman! When I lived in Japan on high school exchange, my host family's little boy taught me how to draw Anpanman, Doraemon, and a bunch of other little anime icons. Natsukashii!
It's not a hotel, but the Children's Museum (Musee de los Ninos) in San Jose, Costa Rica was an old prison too. It's painted a bright yellow now but the prison vibe is unmistakable, even though the exhibits inside are pretty awesome for kids.
I just spent five minutes watching a brilliant in-joke that, apparently, no one (other than the camera person and the unseen carillon player) got. Brilliant.
Even worse, the survivors, after being plucked from the water, were detained, sleep-deprived, and forced by Transocean to sign waivers or told they wouldn't be allowed to go home. BP sounds worse than Stalin.
