There's a fiction book I read where one character thought he saw a Chupacabra and another character says "No, that's just a nasty mangey coyote, that's what they all are." Or something along those lines. I wish I could remember the book name...anyone know it?

I'm glad they addressed the fact that glucocorticoids are very powerful stress hormones and when exposed to them long-term there will probably be some pretty bad side effects.

Harp. I don't know what it is about it given that I love the Guinness company's other products, but I can't stand it.
Then again, I've taken a smell of some beers and walked away, so I'm likely missing out.

The Fugu statistic is WAY off. Since the requirement of licensing of fugu chefs (back in 1958) the death rate of people eating the fish has stayed steady around 6-7%, and that includes the amateur unlicensed chefs who serve it illegally. If it were up to licensed chefs only, the death rate would be around 1%, most likely.

I'd say that the person who stole it for sure knows the guy, except that if I were to ever turn to thievery for money, and I came across something like a dissertation (they're pretty easy to figure out what they are...), I would definitely send a USB drive with the file on it to the owner of the computer, just in case it wasn't backed up.
Then again, I live within the academic community and know the value of files like that. Some people might not. I think Gauldar also has a point about a corporation possibly launching an investigation.

The United States system is far from perfect, but I'd much rather deal with it than many of the other legal systems in the world.
That said: When daddy pays cash for the Lamborghini, I'd take her "too rich to go to jail" (if not prison) seriously.

From what I've seen, most of the secrets with clear photos that aren't desires to hear from someone again are actually grabbed photos from other peoples' photostreams. If you look around there are quite a few people complaining/commenting about their photos being used for secrets that aren't theirs...only thing is, most people aren't married to media scholars who presumably know how to get in the news.

While I'm glad the virus appears to be wiped out, how have they proven that it's a bovine-specific agent and how do they know that Laos is actually free of it? They seemed pretty thorough in testing, but given that the disease was originally seen in water buffalo and Laos has many of those, I would hope that they confirm eradication there soon. The original strain found in the water buffalo was pretty self-limiting (90%+ mortality) but the other ones seem less virulent and possibly less harmful.
I dunno. Just the thoughts of someone studying virology. I'm sure they have this all figured out.

Oi! Stillwater is in MN. Just barely across the river, but MN nonetheless.
I wonder how they transport these things. Seems perilous to have people lifting them, and machinery seems like it could easily damage them.
Anyway, not my kind of hobby, but as I probably spend as much as the guy who won this year on non-"practical" things, I'm not one to judge what makes him happy. Seems like he'd have a stinky garden, though.

I'm a bit creeped out by the teeth...very Jack Skellington, like White Collar said. Very neat, just creepy at the same time!

Whoa! That kid in the clipart DOES only have one leg. That's messed up.
Anyway, I'm surprised my parents didn't divorce over me (pretty messed up kid)...so glad they didn't, though. I don't think I could have gotten out of adolescence without both of them helping me in the same place.
On the flip side, one of my girlfriends has parents who didn't divorce when she was a teen (not necessarily because of her, she was a pretty good kid) and *really* should have. When they finally did, everyone was much happier.
Either way, raising a teen girl has to be super difficult. I can't imagine doing it on my own.

Meh. When serious female racers compete, they don't wear much more than bikinis. The idea of guys gathering to watch for the sole reason of oggling them is kinda trashy, but that's Gold Coast for you. At least they're getting real competitive runners. Bikini models trying to run that distance...yowch.

That looks so much easier to do than converting a monitor into a fishtank. Still, both of them are pretty neat, especially when old iMac G3 monitors are turned into betta tanks (air stone and everything! the depth of the monitor makes it really easy to fit everything in).
I've also seen an iMac turned into a house for a dwarf hamster, which was amazing and awesome.

Unless my burglars happen to have the ability to flatten themselves to the size of cockroaches (or at most, mice), I'm not too worried. I would totally use this to prank someone, though.

your wood beams will rot
When the beams break
the cage, it will fall
and down will come baby,
Caging and all"
