I wonder if Olafsson (and most teenagers also think it's "impolite" to ignore birthday gifts from grandparents and not send them a thank-you note. (A REAL thank-you note, hand-written, and sent in the mail.) Anything less is a breach of etiquette and a failure in familial obligations.
