Some Canadian Skeptic's Comments

Dave, I forgot to post this, but in response to your, "if being conservative is such a terrible thing, why is it that liberals almost always try to fool voters by moving to the right during campaigns?" comment....

Is that really your argument defending American conservativism? Everyone else is doing it? Kinda weak. Weak and lame.

Lame-weak.

Lweak.

Dave: she has a laundry list of skeletons in her closet, and you don't have to look far to find them, nor to you have to be snarky and patrionizing about how hypocritical you find the 'left' to be (I would wager that you're not looking very hard to find flaws in her experience, but admitedly, just a guess).

But bear in mind, this neatorama post was about something superfifical in the first place: looks. Don't be surpised (or fake-offended) when people start responding in kind.

This is outrageous! Why are women flocking to mimick her fashion style? I was disheartened to find the blatant pandering of the McCain camp in an effort to appeal to disgruntled Hillary supporters, thinking, "naw, it'll never work", and here it is, working on the most superficial and meaningless levels ever?

More to the point, why aren't more people mimicking her polar-bear hunting? That's one endangered species that's been getting a free ride too long!

Molson Canadian is also owned by a Belgian company. I'm not particularly fond of Canadian, but jezzus krist, talk about national irony!

To all my american friends who cry about American iconographs, I feel the need to remind you that American companies have been apropriating foreign cultural icons for decades...maybe you're finally starting to get the hint about what the rest of the world has being dealing with.

Ignorance of science aside (the LHC will NOT cause a black hole...the physics required to make a black hole are the same physics that will cause it to evaporate instantly...you can't have one without the other, so people need to stop spreading this anti-science hogwash), I just don't think the animation is all that great.

If there was a black hole, it would look nothing like that, and the animation itself is rather amateurish.

It's already been mentioned in this thread, but I just want to confirm/agree a little.

1) Circumcision in no way helps the body fight STD's. We were taught that in grade 7 health class, back in 1992! We know better, and its simply propoganda that ties into the next point...

2) Why not simply advocate condom use? Answer: Uganda (as well as Nigeria) has been falling under the sway of a particular group of Catholic extremists who preach that condoms are the tools designed by the west that actually INFECT people with HIV! Why? In order to sell more pharmaceuticals and keep African countries poor and subservient to America's wishes.

And so the fear-mongering goes on, and is literally killing people.

Some Canadian Skeptic ( http://somecanadianskeptic.blogspot.com ) is a blog for the skeptically-minded (duh). I deal with skeptic-issues, such as debunking psychics, astrology, alternative medicine, conspiracy theories and creationism. Whenever it comes up, Canadian skeptical news is also featured.

It's also a source of scientific explanation for the non-scientific people (like myself!). Every now and then, I'll have an entry about something astronomical (my favorite scientific discipline), biological, technological, or some other scientific principle that might need a little more dumbing-down from someone (me) who needed it dumbed down quite a bit.

Neatorama once linked to my blog in June/08 when a psychic in my home-area made allegations of sexual abuse, forcing the mother of an 11-year old autistic child from school. (http://somecanadianskeptic.blogspot.com/2008/06/psychics-and-sex-and-autism-oh-my.html) That's the sort of Canadian skeptical-news I cover.

Thanks, Neatorama for this! This is a great idea!

Don't mean to sound like a doomsday'er or nothing, but in 2029 the asteroid 'Apophis" will zing right past us (closer than even our geo-sync satellites!). Earth's gravity will alter its trajectory just enough that when Apophis comes back around in 2036, it will slam into us. I don't know if it's as big as the one in the video though....

just sayin.
