Well I think all major parties realize how insane it is to have as many nuclear weapons as we have now on this planet. Even if you are as cynical as Brycemeister, it's important that Obama and Medvedev are publicly moving towards nuclear arms reduction.
Of course this is the relatively easy stuff. The real trick will be when/if the US and Russia get to within a few hundred nukes.
For all the references this website has made over the years, I'm surprised it took this long to see a dedicated Doctor Who post. :)
Like many others, I didn't get into Doctor Who until the 2005 new series took off. But It truly is a great sci-fi show for all ages and I can't recommend it highly enough. Although I have to say that I don't think I would have been able to handle some of the scarier episodes when I was a little kid! (weeping angels, the satanic monster, etc)
Now that we are on the new season I have been pleasantly surprised. I was sad to see Tennant go and I had a lousy first impression of Matt Smith in the Christmas episode. However, the 11th hour changed all that and I am really looking forward to each new episode of Doctor Who!
The only part I found gross, was when he soaked the strawberries in dish washing soap. (I literally said "ewww" out loud)
As someone else said, we have billions of living things squirming around our bodies. Adding one more that will be unnoticed and quickly die, shouldn't be a big deal to anyone. Our bodies were honed to survive in much harsher and less hygienic conditions than we have today.
Now I'm all for giving fruits and vegetables a once over with water, but this is extreme.
@dd actually I think robert ebert said he's never played a video game so he's an even worse judge than you thought.
It is silly for him to say what he said because of the huge amount of hours that go specifically into the aesthetic part of every game. If you want you can even think of them as a gigantic landscape painting that the player can interact with on an unprecedented scale.
I can't imagine how insulting this must be for someone who does art and graphics design for video games.
I have always felt that the show Britain's got Talent does it right as opposed to American Idol. One show seems more about good fun with people's quirky talents, while the other one is more about cut throat competition in order to land a contract with the recording industry.

Animal abuse and cruelty is a very real problem in our world, but when you flip out over non-issues like these it only de-legitimizes these efforts.
