The sad thing is that Moon, while a brillian musician, was clearly mentally ill. Unfortunately, as is often the case, he never got the help he needed. Those around him were only too happy to laugh at his antics rather than being the friends he truly needed.

The mentally ill rich are commonly treated as "eccentrics" and indulged rather than helped. The poor mentally ill are treated as an inconvenience and either ignored or locked up, but seldom helped. Only the middle class mentally ill commonly get the help they need - but even then it often takes a lot before they get that help.
