rosaryfixer- Sci-fi luminary Robert Heinlein tells of a trip to the USSR some time before the Gagarin flight. For about half a day, a lot of government officials and maybe it was military cadets, were all very excited about an unreleased news dispatch that the Soviets had launched a man into orbit. By evening, the Ministry of Truth was in action, denying rumors that any launch had taken place — he speculates that an unknown cosmonaut actually became the first man to go into space, and die there.
