Certainly there is nothing wrong with pushing it a couple days for a healthy adult. The factor of safety includes when the product would be unhealthy for an elderly person or someone with a weak immune system.

Having experienced food poisoning, and given the recent agricultural issues with spinach, tomatoes and green onions, I might re-evaluate my cooking methods and how far I push expiration dates.

Beat phenomena is also really cool. An examples would be to set up two pendulums with a spring connecting them at the base. If you start one pendulum swinging, the amplitude of oscillation will slowly decrease and the other pendulum will slowly start to oscillate. Eventually all of the energy will transfer to the opposite pendulum. They will exchange energy back and forth until all of the energy is dissipated by mechanical methods (friction, etc).

There are really interesting applications of vibrations that people rarely realize unless they are into science. A quick google search of flutter will show you videos of vibration in brings or air plane wings that is dependent on the wind speed. The cool bit is that the vibration is perpendicular to the wind. Really cool stuff.

I found Carson's comment about Pittsburgh interesting. I live in the DC area, but grew up in Pittsburgh, and have noticed much worse pollution in the DC area. I'm not surprised to hear there is a bias in the Pittsburgh measurement based on geography.

The line between art and porn is grey at times. However, a photo intentionally promoting the sexuality of a minor seems like its more on the porn side of the line. Reminds of a recent Lindsay Lohan spread. I didn't see that as art either, but at least she is old enough to legally sell herself.
