Interesting tidbit.. the bear was jettisoned off Babylon 5 and ended up on the show that Peter David and Bill Mumy created for Nickelodeon called Space Cases. They found the bear floating in space...

I'm with zook... I remember as a little kid getting them at Mets games. They looked and sounded EXACTLY like the vuvuzela. Must have gotten about a half a dozen of them during 1969 alone. the only person I ever knew who could get anything other than a loud fart out of it was my brother, who can play any woodwind instrument you put in his hands.. but then again, he's always ben full of hot air.

I'm sorry.. but I don't agree with Wild E being evil. He's NOT.. he's a hungry animal. He's just doing what comes naturally (he's a predator and the Road Runner is prey). Granted.. he does have the ACME arsenal behind him... but just because you got some cool toys, doesn't make you evil. And if the Joker and Magneto are on the list, why isn't Lex Luthor from Superman the Animated Series? Not to say that the Joker isn't evil, but he's insane. Lex is sane... and carefully plots each and every move he makes.

How about "lookit".... it's NOT a word. I get angry enough when kids use it (I'm a mom of two boys.. and they know never to use that phrase).. but it pisses me off to no end when ADULTS use it when talking to their kids. Anytime I hear it come out of a parents mouth.. I want to go over to whoever has said it, smack them upside their ignorant heads and thank them for teaching their child how to sound as as dumb as they do.

Not only is cursive writing going the way of the dinosaur in this country.. so is PRINTING. I have a 10 year old son whose print is atrocious. He's very bright, but if you just looked at his handwriting and didn't read what he wrote, it looks as though it was scrawled by a 2nd grader. I'm concerned.. but every year, I get the same thing form his teachers, THEY can read it and it won't matter soon anyway. As they see it, everyone will be doing everything on computers anyway.. so what's the point of stressing it to their students. They aren't even teaching cursive in his school. They don't see it as important. I do... and over the summer, I taught him the basics. His cursive is much more legible than his print, and that is how he is wri9ting in school this year. The art of handwriting is VERY IMPORTANT. There will always be a need for you to write something down or sign something.. no matter how paperless our society gets. It is a travesty that children nowadays don't know the basics anymore... all of this is leading to the DUMBING DOWN of society as a whole.

I can't believe that Phantom of the Paradise is never mentioned with these craptastic movie lists. It's truly horrible.
Oh and don't forget Skidoo...which has the distinction of being the VERY LAST film Groucho Marx was ever in.. he actually moved the pretty girl out of the way so he could read his lines off a cue card near the camera.. and Jackie Gleason is visibly pissed off throughout the whole movie.
2 classically bad films that everyone forgets about.. if you get the chance to see either.. watch at your own risk.

Cats can be so smart.
When I was a kid, I had a cat that would find the can of wet cat food that had a lid on it (he knew that was the one that was already opened) and would bring it to you. If after sufficient meowing and staring didn't get your attention, he'd just open the can himself and eat right in front of you. He'd also take Tender Vittles (that stuff was NASTY) pouches out of the boxes, rip it open and have a snack any time he wanted. Didn't matter how well you hid his food, he'd find it. Oh and by the way he was a big fat cat.
I also had a cat that would turn the lights on and off by himself (he didn't like the dark).
My brother had a cat that could open their refrigerator door. They used to have to keep a heavy chair placed in front of it or all their food would go bad (the cat didn't close the door... how rude).

I applaud Lenore's decision to allow her son to take the subway by himself! I myself was born and raised in NYC in the seventies and even though I didn't ride the subway by myself frequently (I lived in the Bronx in Co-Op City which does not have a subway stop nearby), I spent many days traveling by myself on the buses around the Bronx and took the Express bus alone to visit my mom who worked at 30 Rockfellar Center by the time I was 10 (by the way, Lenore's son was on the verge of turning 10 years old at the time of his subway ride). I, along with MANY of my friends growing up were latch-key kids. I started staying by myself after school at the age of seven out of necessity (both of my parents worked). New York was a far more dangerous place back then -- remember folks, 42nd Street was not the tourist friendly new Mall of America that it is today. Also, the subway was a very dangerous place back then-- the subway cars themselves weren't as safe as they are now and a police presence was non-existent. My tween years were during the great blackout of 1977 and the Son of Sam killings (and let us not forget "President Ford to NY 'Drop Dead'" headline. I grew up quickly back then learning both responsibility and to be completely self aware of my surroundings at an early age. I was not a big tough kid either, I was a girl who was very small for my age.
With all of that , I want you all to know that I now have a 9 year old son. He, like myself, is small for his age BUT he is a very intelligent self aware young person (Lenore commented in her article that her son is 10 going on 40 and so is my son). If I still lived in NYC I would let him at least ride the buses by himself. And explore his neighborhood alone (but preferably with friends.. it's much more fun that way). Thanks to the State of Connecticut, I am not allowed by law to leave him alone unattended until he is at least 12 years old. And by law, he is supposed to still be in a child safety seat in our car (because he is still not 80 pounds). I can understand that we all want our kids to be safe, but things are getting way out of control. What ever happened to just hanging out with your friends after school? We're not letting our kids have the experiences they will need to become responsible adults. We now have college kids who email their school papers home to be checked over by their parents. I've also heard of many young adults who bring their PARENTS on jobs interviews! Enough is enough people. It's time to let our kids grow up as we did. And if the start is to let our 9 or 10 year olds ride the subway for 5 stops or so, let it be. I only wish my son could have that opportunity too.
