Learning to drive helped me deal with my autism - but maybe because I am a high-functioning autistic, an "aspie." Driving forced me to concentrate on what the hell I was doing, because I was in control of a 1300 kg missile, and I had to know where I was. I had learned to keep track of where I was before that when I biked around my neighborhood, but controlling a car made knowing where I was that much more important. I am a great driver, if I may say so myself - but I have the spotless driving record as evidence.
