Astronomers have made plenty of discoveries in recent years. A lot of which are very much related to us, even on a direct level. But a lot of their contributions go unnoticed by the public because there isn't media attention to those particular discoveries. If you look up a montly Astronomy journal there are tons of examples. But of those the only ones that get sifted to the general public are often pretty pictures and something like this.
They bought the piano for £45,000, but the insurance officials say it was insured for just £26,000. "Experts estimate that a new Bosendorfer would cost approximately £90,000"

I love the Jim Carrey bit. What they were talking about was absolutely correct. But it was really redundant. They used a lot of jargon to make a basic fact sound over the top and difficult to understand. Great bit.
Don't worry, the dynamite MAY go off in an hour, or then again, there is an equal probability that it may NOT. As long as I don't take a peek, you'll be both alive AND smeared out into bits.
