Not just online. A company I used to work for had a fake, female employee who would send out overdue/collection letters. All staff were told that if someone called for her, to put them through to the collections department.

The theory was that people were less likely to yell at a female so putting a female name on the bottom of a collection letter would keep them a little calmer.
