I offer a service for people who can't own a dog but want to enjoy all the benefits of one. For $30, I will show up once a month with a wheelbarrow full of feces and dump it around your backyard. Premium service includes sitting in your yard and screaming to the top of my lungs until the neighbors call the city.

I experienced no rudeness in France, and in fact was consistently treated very well by friendly waiters and waitresses. I had heard horror stories but couldn't find any.

The best is when the news interviews itself. "Now joining us is special correspondent So-and-So. Tell us, So-and-So, what's happening in Haiti?"

Or when they switch to a camera in the "newsroom" where people are bustling around and the anchor has his shirt sleeves rolled up. And he's telling us what's going to be on the news in the coming hour.

@ Cola

I agree. I never see any articles warning me of the viruses out there for my macs. I know they must be there. But like chad blurted, it's not because macs are safer, just fewer. Still, it would be nice to know. Does anyone know where mac users can go to find out?

@dbsmall - You're right. This kind of wording creates so much unnecessary confusion about evolution - including the "wow" responses to sociobiology and evolutionary psychology. Most people I know - even smart ones - when asked to describe natural selection, end up describing something like Lamarkianism.

@ Mark H

Mark, what do the P-waves feel like if we weren't ignoring them? And is it any different than, say, the rumbling caused by a train passing, a diesel truck idling outside or a dozen other sensations that we routinely ignore?

This might seem like a lame question, but I'm asking it in earnest. A currency's value is in it's purchasing power, not in the number of zeros printed on the paper. If tomorrow Americans were all required to turn in their dollars for dimes then what we used to be able to purchase for a paper dollar bill we can now purchase for a dime - because the dime has become "worth" what a dollar was worth yesterday. Even international purchases would immediately adjust to the new inflated purchasing power of the dime. All that seems to have been done is a shift in the basic currency unit. Does this make sense?
